An Cnoc means "hill" in Scottish Gaelic. The distillery of Anoc is "Knockdhu", which means "black hill" in Scottish Gaelic. Production began in October 1894. When Mr. John Morrison bought this area, he discovered that there were several very clear and clean springs on the south side of Knock Hill, so he decided to build a whiskey distillery. The distillery was built using local gray granite and began production in October 1894. , this distillery used a 16-horsepower steam engine to create a productivity of 2,500 gallons per week. It was the most modern distillery at the time. The distillery was located in Moray, a region rich in peat and high-quality barley. The Great Northern Scottish Railway was also run by Pass by the factory area. It was closed for several years due to the Great Depression in 1931, and was forced to close due to restrictions on the supply of barley during World War II from 1940 to 1945. In 1947, the Knockhdu Distillery completely updated its production equipment, such as new mash troughs, mechanical boilers, Internal combustion engines and new cooperage, etc. In 1982, the distillery closed again due to declining global demand for Scotch whiskey. In 1988, it was sold to Inver House Distillers and production resumed on February 6, 1989.
